U.K. Parliament Gives Theresa May Approval To Start Brexit

Moments ago, UK Parliament passed legislation allowing the government to invoke Article 50, with the House of Commons overturning amendments from the unelected House of Lords that sought to restrict May’s room for maneuver.  While press reports earlier said May could trigger Article 50 as early as Thursday, subsequent reports from Bloomberg suggested that she will commence Brexit in the last week of March.

Nigel Farage Delighted After UK Parliament Overwhelmingly Votes To Trigger Brexit

In a victory for Prime Minister Theresa May, the UK Parliament's House of Commons voted overwhelmingly to trigger Britain's exit from the European Union, defeating attempts by pro-EU lawmakers to attach extra conditions to her plan to start divorce talks by March 31. 494 to 122 lawmakers voted in favor of a law giving EU nationals the automatic right to remain in the UK as the first piece of legislation to authorise Brexit made its way through the Commons, ending days of intense debate which have tested May's slim parliamentary majority.

UK Parliament Overwhelmingly Authorizes Theresa May To Trigger Article 50 And Withdraw From EU

MP's in Parliament have voted 498 to 114 to authorize Prime Minster Theresa May to Trigger Article 50 and begin the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union. The vote officiates the result of the June 23rd, 2016 "Brexit" Referendum where a majority of UK citizens indicated a desire to leave the EU. An amendment introduced by the Scottish National Party (SNP) which called on the Government to consult the devolved powers on Brexit and calls on her to set out her objectives for the negotiation was rejected. The vote authorizes Theresa May to begin the withdrawal process, which she has indicated she will do by the end of March, 2017.
